SIMCOE, ON. – The board of the Simcoe Little Theatre (SLT) hopes to launch a $150,000 transformation of its building. “The improvements we have planned will create a much comfortable and inviting facility for local performers and audiences to enjoy with pride for years to come,” says SLT President Dawn Barron-Bommarito. To do that, the theatre is launching a fundraising campaign to be called $150 for Canada 150. Honorary Chair of the $150 for Canada 150 campaign will be Mary Edmonds. Mary is the sole surviving member of the original group who created Simcoe Little Theatre in 1945. Over the decades, Mary and her family have been active leaders in all facets of Simcoe Little Theatre, performing, directing, serving on the board and promoting the amateur theatre in all corners of our changing community. “We are delighted that Mary has agreed to be honorary chair of our campaign and I am confident that our community will respond to our $150 for Canada 150 appeal,” said Barron-Bommarito. “People from across the county enjoy our theatre and will want to help us make this happen.”
The Board of Simcoe Little Theatre believes these improvements are needed to stay in step with community theatres in other growing rural communities in Southern Ontario. “Our community theatre has delighted audiences for more than 70 years because we have continued to grow and improve. Norfolk County needs an upgraded theatre facility that young and old will enjoy for years to come – experiencing the process of theatrical productions, learning the technical skills for lighting and sound, and contributing to the legacy,” said Board Maintenance Chair Dave Kent. “Simcoe Little Theatre is a cornerstone of Simcoe’s Core Revitalization,” said SLT Vice President John Carrington. “Our plan will increase the annual flow of people through our doors from 4,000 to 6,000 people. More people will go to dinner before a show. More musicians and other performers will choose our stage and utilize our more spacious lower lounge. More events and more activity means more people enjoying the core of Simcoe.”
