2022/2023 Season Press Release
September 14th, 2022
It may be called the Simcoe Little Theatre, but some big productions are calling it home over the next year. With even bigger laughs, community, and inclusivity a part of every single show.
After a successful bounce back in early 2022 following pandemic closures, the team at Simcoe Little Theatre are leaping into a full return of SLT productions. Heading into 2023 they’ve planned three shows full of local talent, music, comedy, and that special kind of magic you’ll only find in community theatre.
The Season:
The fun will start on November 17th with a three-week run of Pumpernickel Junction, a Christmas production suitable for all ages written by Norfolk County’s own Claire Senko and with musical direction by J.P. Antonacci. Senko, who is also directing the show, shares that Pumpernickel Junction is “chocked full of chuckles, innocence, and cheer. Folks can expect to be warmed by an old fashioned romance interrupted by train whistles, bustling travellers, and vignettes of folks crossing paths and sharing their talents and stories.”
After a pause over the holidays, SLT will return in early March with Love Letters by A.R. Gurney. This acclaimed Broadway classic was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and has received countless play and television adaptations since the show’s debut in 1988. Directed by Melissa Collver, she adds that “In an age of instant messaging and social media, letter writing has become a lost art. Love Letters will pull the audience in as they follow the lives of two friends through a lifetime of letters ultimately revealing missed opportunities and the deep and profound fondness the two felt for each other.”
And last but certainly not least the fun continues with Race Day; written by Norm Foster, Canada’s most performed playwright, along with musical numbers by Steve Thomas. Leading this comedic musical surrounding a day at the racetrack are local directors Michelle and Tony Proracki. Tony tells patrons to “get ready for a rib-tickling day at the track with a variety of ‘characters’ in this hilarious, well written comedy with a great musical score.”
