Performances are on Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday and Sunday matinees.

Auditions are open, no need to book a specific time. You do not need to prepare anything for the auditions, sides will be provided.

NOTE: There will be a TECH rehearsal on the Sunday May 2^nd before the show and a DRESS rehearsal on the Tuesday May 4^th before the show run. You MUST be available for both the Tech rehearsal and Dress rehearsal to be cast.

Show Description

10-11 male parts and 5 female parts

There are 6 vignettes (plays) that all take place in an office. The set remains the same throughout but are changed with touches that will be done by stagehands dressed as office cleaners. (this is a great way for someone who is new and not sure about acting to be on stage. There is also an off-stage part for NEIL and this can also be a good way to get your feet wet while potentially not having to remember lines).

There are connections throughout the play from one to the other that become known as the vignettes progress. The last vignette (play 6) is the culmination of the clues and finishes off the play hilariously. This is the only vignette that has any of the other players in it. (each vignette stands alone except 3 characters who return in the last vignette)

This is a fast paced and funny play that relies heavily on the characters being believable in their vignettes while being faced with crazy situations occurring in each vignette. The timing is of the utmost importance in this show.

Roles:

Play 1: “THE REPORTER”

WARREN KIMBLE: is being replaced as on-air personality due to age, hostile when talking about Pam Gerard but sucks up to her to her face. Can be 50 + or look it.

PAM GERARD: social and work climber at the studio, is a producer, desperately wants Warren fired, all business, no caring. Can be 30’s to 40’s.

ONE ARMED MAN: blames studio for breaking up his marriage and losing his job due to an on-air mistake. Is trying to kill Warren as he thinks he is the producer. Can be any age really.

Play 2. “THE PITCH”

GORDON BLAINE: film producer, needs to have a hit, works with Francine as a team but they differ on whether to produce Bobby Holland’s Movie. Can be 40’s to 50’s.

FRANCINE MAJORS: Gordon’s producing partner, more savvy than Gordon, more integrity than Gordon. Can be 30-45 maybe.

BOBBY HOLLAND: Director who has seen better days, problem with alcohol and no one wants to back his movies, his best days are behind him. He is oblivious to his deficits. Would be 50-60+.

Play 3. “THE AGENT”

MARK YOUNG: Two timing dog of a husband, an agent for films, fast talking, smarmy, tries to get out of infidelity with charms, it doesn’t work. He doesn’t really care. Can be mid to late 20’s to 40’s.

ELLIE YOUNG: Mark’s wife, has pictures of his infidelity, no nonsense, has heard it all before, has hired a PI and their marriage is over (she has the best line in the play). Can be mid to late 20’s to 40’s

Play 4. “THE VISIT”

RHONDA PENNY: Very overbearing mom, think New Yorker, (think Marie Barone from Everyone Loves Raymond) needs to be 60+.

LLOYD PENNY: Rhonda’s husband, Richards father, kowtows to Rhonda. Golfer, well to do, has a secret that comes out in this vignette. Needs to be 60+

RICHARD PENNY: a lawyer, comes out to his parents in this vignette, has to use his negotiation skills with his parents throughout this vignette. Needs to be 45-50+.

Play 5 “THE DISMISSAL”

STAN THURBER: Owns a horse race track, has to fire on of his jockey’s as they are huge for a jockey and he has a lot of angst about this as his father hired this man as he was friends with Artie’s dad. Now Stan has to fire him. Can be 45-50+.

ARTIE BARNES: Is the jockey who is begging Stan to honour his dad’s promise for Artie to have a job. Really plays emotional blackmail with Stan. He really loves this job and can’t imagine his life without it. Needs to be similar age to Stan as they were childhood contemporaries. (could be slightly younger)

Play 6. “THE ANALYST”

SHARON FREEMAN: The counselor, treating a man on the ledge, she has a romantic weekend away planned and the jumper is messing this up. She gradually throughout this vignette gets more and more frustrated by this. She seems overwhelmed and exhausted by what is going on. She can be 30+.

MAN: Is the week at a glance salesman who comes in and is mistaken for the counselors new patient and he doesn’t tell her it’s not him as he desperately tries to sell her the week’s at a glance. Stereotypical salesman, pushy and doesn’t take no for an answer. Can be mid to late 20’s to 40’s

NEIL PENNY: patient on the ledge, used to be a professional ice skater but fell several times in the Olympics. Rhonda and Lloyd’s son and Richard’s brother. You don’t see him he is always out on the ledge. He is a mama’s boy. He would be 40’s to 50.
