Harvest

Written by: Ken Cameron
Directed by: Christine Mulholland
Tickets starting at $27
On Stage: April 30th – May 10th

Charlotte and Allan are ready to retire from farming and move into a condo in town. But they are not ready to sell their home. Renting out the farmhouse to a nice young couple from the city proves to be too good a solution. They start to notice suspicious clues. These new tenants have no furniture, one of them is named Razor and the hydro bill is ridiculously high.

Ken Cameron turns the real life experience of his parents selling their Southwestern Ontario farm into a very funny and unsettling commentary on the state of rural Canada.

In this charming comedy, a retiring couple rents out their family farm to a “nice young man.” But when they discover the “nice young man” has turned their house into a marijuana grow-op, they are suddenly thrown into a hilarious, unexpected, life-after-retirement adventure.

MEET THE DIRECTOR

Christine Mulholland

I first fell in love with the magic of theater as a young dancer in a production of Red Shoes in London, Ont.  Several university Gilbert and Sullivan shows later, I was permanently hooked!  During my career as an educator, directing the school musicals and passing the love of theater onto the next generation was one of the most rewarding aspects of my job.

My first time on the SLT stage was in the 1983 production of Oklahoma, and I met my future husband as fellow pit musicians in Carousel 3 years later. I’ve worn several proverbial hats here at SLT down through the years; choreographing, vocal coaching, ushering, etc. Now I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to find myself in the role of director for this delightful play, ‘Harvest.’ As an added bonus, I’ve been blessed to work with some of the most talented and patient people I know. From my beloved leads, Melinda and Dan, to Anna, my rock and right-hand everything, to my hard-working and creative set, tech and backstage crews, each one of you has made this production a joy to bring to life. A true harvest of new memories.

I would like to personally dedicate this production to all the hard-working and dedicated farming families of Norfolk and the surrounding area. Your tireless efforts to put nourishing food on our tables is a gift beyond measure. Thank you for “turning your dirt into our gold. Now that’s alchemy.”

HARVEST tugged at my heart on my first read through.  Such a sweet, funny story told by two characters who are both loving and loveable.  This play embraces all that makes community theater so unique and a gift to be treasured.  I love its story-telling framework and the intimate relationship that model creates with the audience; a connection that makes the performance crackle with energy and true-life authenticity. HARVEST abounds in these connective moments and I am honoured to be the one to bring it to life at SLT along with many others who have given their heart and soul and talents to this production.

Charlotte

I have had a great deal of fun getting Charlotte ready for you to meet. This has been a very different experience bringing her to life than other roles that I have had.  The last role I played on this stage was Jinx in The Savannah Sipping Society. I would like to thank Dan, who plays Allan, for all his hard work and dedication. Also special thanks to Christine and Anna for riding alongside us in whatever direction we went. Enjoy the show and thank you for keeping our Little Theatre thriving.

Allan

It has been a delight working on the Harvest play.  The last show I was in on the SLT stage was Waiting for Godot!  Playing Allan in this show is a really fun challenge and I am lucky to have the good fortune to work with Melinda.  She brings amazing talent, energy, patience and a tireless work ethic to the show and I can’t thank her enough! I would also like to thank Anna for her huge help throughout the rehearsal process. Our Director, Christine, has been a wonderfully positive, patient, creative force and through all her efforts really gave this show its heart!  We were lucky to assemble an excellent crew that came together to help spin the magic that is Harvest.  Thank you for supporting this live theatre.  Enjoy the show!
